Ceramic vs Plastic
Ceramic and terracotta look classic, but they're porous, so plants dry out faster and need watering more often than plastic or metal. They're also more likely to crack in frost, so check it's actually rated frost-resistant before leaving one out all winter.
Raised Beds and Baskets
Raised beds are good if you want a defined space for veg or flowers without digging into the ground itself, handy for poor soil too. Hanging baskets need a bracket rated for the weight once they're filled, wet compost and plants weighs a lot more than the empty basket suggests.
Drainage matters more than the material it's made from. A gorgeous pot with no drainage hole will waterlog and kill most things you put in it, so check that first regardless of what it looks like.
