Garden sofas are one of those buys where it really pays to shop around. A corner set for weekend lounging, a couple of egg chairs for stargazing, whatever you're after, you'll often find the exact same rattan set listed under a different name (and a different price) at more than one retailer.
Materials
Most sets are rattan, and it's popular for good reason, it's light, it copes fine with the weather, and you'll find it in flat weave or round weave. Aluminium with cushions is the other common option. It's lighter than wood and dries out a lot faster once the rain's stopped.
Styles and Sizes
If you've got a bigger patio or a family that needs seating for everyone, a corner set is probably what you want. An L-shaped one does the same job if it's going against a wall or fence. Tighter on space? A three-seater sofa or a couple of egg chairs will probably suit you better.
Worth checking what you're actually paying for too. Some sets throw in a coffee table and footstool, others are just the sofa. And if cushions come with it, make sure the covers come off and go in the wash, because they will need washing at some point.
Don't overlook storage either. If there's nowhere to put the whole set away, look for something that stacks, folds, or comes apart so you can fit the pieces in a shed over winter, that's often easier than trying to cover the whole thing outside with a furniture cover.

The frame will be fine, rattan and aluminium are built for it. Cushions are the weak point though, bring them in or cover them up when it's really wet or over winter, otherwise they'll go mouldy or fade.
What's the actual difference between flat weave and round weave rattan?
Flat weave is the wider, ribbon-style strand, it's easier to wipe down and keep clean. Round weave looks more natural and textured, but dirt gets into the gaps more easily.

You can get something under £300 if you're not fussy, but for a proper set with a better frame you're looking at £600 to £1,200, and it goes up from there if you want a premium modular one.
