Gas, wood-fired or electric, these all cook a pizza pretty differently, worth thinking about how often you'd actually use it before picking one.
Wood, Gas or Electric
Wood-fired gives you the best flavour and the highest heat, but there's more setup, more fuel, more cleaning after. Gas lights straight away and holds a steady temperature, better if it's going to get regular use rather than the odd weekend.
Electric is the newer option here, simplest to use since there's no fuel involved, though it typically won't hit quite the same peak temperature as wood.
Cooking time's a real difference too, a properly hot wood or gas oven can do a pizza in under 2 minutes, handy if you're feeding a few people and want to keep them coming.
If you don't have a permanent spot for it, a smaller tabletop oven's easy to tuck away. If you do, a bigger standing model's probably worth it.
Frequently asked questions
Which actually cooks the best pizza, wood, gas or electric?
Wood gives the most authentic flavour and the highest heat. Gas is more convenient day to day. Electric's the simplest to use but usually runs a bit cooler.
How long does a pizza actually take?
In a properly heated wood or gas oven, 90 seconds to 2 minutes. Electric usually takes a bit longer than that.
Do pizza ovens take up much space?
Tabletop ones don't, easy to store away. Standing models need a proper fixed spot on the patio or in the garden.
